5 Smoke Aversion

Description

This category involved blowing warm stale smoke in smoker's faces while they smoked.

2,557 smokers included from 103 separate studies.

Results

Smoke Aversion had the fifth highest quit rate of any category.

Smoke Aversion rounds out the top third of the results, and scores well.

Unfortunately, this method is not widely available in America.

Most of these studies were performed in England.

Bottom line

Aversion methods are unpleasant. That's the whole point. If smoking makes you sick then you'll probably stop.

And the unpleasantness is probably why this method is not widely available.

At the same time, 'away from' motivation may prompt initial action. However motivation 'toward' a clear, desirable goal is how to finish the job.

For more on the two kinds of motivation see My approach to hypnosis in the FAQ.
