After playing guitar for 30 years, every friend I have who has taken up the instrument has begged to learn guitar from me.

Now the value of my approach in guitar instruction, as far as I can tell, is more on helping people learn guitar, than in my teaching guitar. Because everyone comes to this point from a different path. Some have played instruments before for years, while some start here from scratch.

And some are not pleased with the progress they’re making from their existing guitar lessons and guitar teachers. And I can’t blame them.

Should Guitar Instruction Be Punishment?

Most music instruction today is damn close to punishment, where creativity is stomped out in favor of a rigid bureaucratic straight-jacket curriculum starting with sight reading sheet music. What torture!
